The Monday blog is becoming a thing baby! So this weeks video is all about hand controls. I use two different types of controls. The primary set is a portable/temporary system. They clamp directly to my pedals and the rods extend up to me, supported by a strap around the steering column. I've used these for 20+ years. One of the best features of these is the ease to remove them and take them with me. This comes in handy when traveling in a friends car or renting a car. I just toss them in a duffle bag and go!
The 2nd type are 'permanent' controls. this system is a single handle that moves in two directions. In toward the dash to brake, and down to accelerate. They are attached to the arm of the brake and gas, just above the actual pedal. This keeps the controls out of the way someone who uses their feet and the pedals. Tanya likes this type much more than the other type. She gets a little weird about driving.
One question I get asked a lot is, "was it hard to learn to drive with hand controls?" The answer is simply 'no.' The body is an incredible machine that adapts very quickly. After being in the car for a short while, the hand controls become 2nd nature. Now you may have to work on refining how you use them and your touch, but you'll definitely become comfortable with the controls!
